Brighter Uckfield Campaign (BUC UP)

Brighter Uckfield Campaign Garden Competition 2010

Entry forms are now  available from the Civic Centre or as a PDF download

Closing date for all entries is 21st June 2010, and judging will take place during the fortnight beginning 28th June.  You will be contacted by members of  Uckfield Horticultural Society to arrange a mutually convenient time for your garden to be judged.

We think it looks great ... But what do you  think?

Have you see the grasses planted out by the Town Council’s Grounds staff in the patch of land underneath the mural on the side wall of the cinema in Library Way?

Campaign leaders are pleased with the result of this work and are anxious to do something similar on other patches of land in the Town.  Please let us know what you think via the Town Council offices or email us, and give us some idea of where you think the campaign should concentrate its future efforts.

Also, the piece of land alongside the steps leading up to Tesco car park has been planted with grass seed, and we should see good results from this in Spring next year.  The grass should help keep weeds at bay (previously the weeds “captured” litter being blown around and used to look awful) and prevent the top dressing of soil being washed down onto the pavement in heavy rain.

Volunteers wanted... For weeding work and general duties

Campaign leaders realise that picking up litter is not everyone’s cup of tea, but there are other ways that people can  help brighten up the Town, we will be please to hear from you; for instance, we have small teams working in other specific parts of the Town.

Brighter things on the horizon?

Efforts are well under way to install plant containers at strategic points in the Town centre with the hope that they will bring a year-round display of colour to the High Street.  Townspeople will be asked to comment on where the containers might be sited before final decisions are made.

Wealden District Council Street Scene Officers

The District council has appointed Street Scene Officers to help tackle the problem of litter and the causes of litter.  In the first instance their role is to educate people into not littering, but they can assist the prosecution process which can then lead to offenders being fined.  You should see them in their “hi-viz” vests around the Town from time-to-time; why not approach them and tell about things that concern you?
