BUS SHELTERS AND STREET FURNITURE
The Town Council owns five bus shelters, one at Ringles Cross, two in the High Street, and one each in Eastbourne Road and Lewes Road.
A recent survey of litter bins and seats in the High Street has recently been undertaken and it is hoped that these will be complemented with additional furniture to improve the image of the High Street.
As a result of this survey town residents identified a desire for the High Street’s environment to be cheered up. The introduction of planters is a part-response to this.
Because the High Street itself lacks landscaping opportunities the Town Council has installed planters at various points along its length. These points are the only locations that the County Council will allow to be used for this purpose. The planters currently have been filled with evergreen plants but will receive flowering Spring and Summer plants when the time is right.
The Town Council has also taken an opportunity to plant out the earth bank alongside the library.
The bank has been filled with Polyanthus between the shrubs that are already in place and will bring an array of colour to a drab area for queuing bus customers and passers by
Along with the planters the new and long-awaited wind and weatherproof bus shelter has been installed opposite Hooke Hall, providing an improved waiting area for bus passengers
