Uckfield Citizens Advice Bureau

Do you work well in a team? Enjoy helping others? Have good communication skills?

Being able to help someone work out the answers to their problems is  huge reward.  If you enjoy problem solving, can spare 6 hours per week and want to do something that fits in with your lifestyle, why not train to become a volunteer adviser.  Some of the best free accredited training is provided every step of the way and the CAB really values its volunteers.  Training Courses start at Uckfield, Crowborough and Hailsham Citizens Advice Bureaux in September 2008.  No previous qualifications skills or experience needed.

Call Judy or Ann on 01323 440323 for an informal chat.

Mediation+ (and Time 2 Talk)

Mediation is offered to neighbours in dispute and trained mediators visit people in their own homes.  Time 2 Talk is a service offering free mediation for families in conflict, particularly parents and teenagers.  NEW RECRUITS WANTED - a training free course is to be run in September 2008. It will consist of 4 Saturdays. People from all walks of life will be considered for training.  Willingness to learn, be part of a team and commitment to the service is required.  Flexible volunteering required.  Please contact 01323 442781 asap for information.

Home Start

Home-Start South Downs, a local charity which until now has worked almost exclusively in Lewes District, has received nearly £180,000 in Big Lottery funding to expand its service into rural Wealden, including Uckfield.  As a result Home-Start is now undertaking an intense volunteer recruitment campaign in Uckfield and rural Wealden. Volunteers have to undergo a ten-week preparation course and are then expected to visit one family once a week for three hours. Volunteers range in age from 25 to 75 and come very diverse backgrounds. What Home-Start looks for is parenting experience, good communication skills, and a sensitive and caring attitude towards others.

Anyone interested in learning more about Home-Start is invited to ring 01273 612025 or email homestartsouthdowns@btinternet.com. Betty, Wendy, or Marion would be pleased to speak with you.
