Helping to prevent anti-social driving and injuries on our roads

Uckfield Town Council is working closely with Sussex Police to set up local community speedwatch schemes in the Uckfield area, starting in the south of the town, in Ridgewood where a small group is already established.

Community Speedwatch is a national initiative where local communities work with the support of the Police to monitor speeds of vehicles using speed detection devices. Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the Police with the aim of educating drivers to reduce their speeds. In cases where education is ignored or there is evidence of repeat or excessive offences (even across county borders), enforcement and prosecution can follow.

We are looking for volunteers in Uckfield! Full training will be provided by Sussex Police and you will have the support of your fellow volunteers when out on the roadside, so you are never on your own.

It is such a vital role, and can really make a difference by increasing public awareness of speed restrictions where we live. It will help to reduce the speed of vehicles and reduce the risk of injury or death on our roads.

If you are interested in volunteering and have a few hours to spare contact the Town Clerk at Uckfield Town Council by email at townclerk@uckfieldtc.gov.uk or by telephone on 01825 762774.
