Remembrance Day – remember from home

As a result of the recent UK Government announcement and national lockdown this Thursday, the Remembrance parade and Remembrance Sunday Service at Holy Cross Church at 3.00pm on Sunday 8 November has been cancelled. This follows the recent announcement of the cancellation of the service at the Eugene Seghers memorial on Sunday morning.

All of the wreaths will continue to be laid around the memorial in Holy Cross Churchyard in the lead up to Wednesday 11 November and the Town Mayor and The Royal British Legion will lay their wreaths on behalf of the Queen, the town’s residents and serving, retired and fallen personnel at 11.00am on that day.

We would like to encourage everyone to ‘remember from home’ this year and to help to spread the word that members of the public should not attend either the memorial or Holy Cross Church at these times.

You can do your bit by:

  • Observing the national two-minute silence in your home, workplace, your doorstep or garden;
  • Donating to the poppy appeal via the The Royal British legion website, or;
  • Displaying a poppy poster in your window – make your own, or with a donation, you can download one from the The Royal British Legion website:
