Three Vacancies for Town Councillors

Notice is hereby given that, following close of nominations for the ordinary election on 4 May 2023, three vacancies exist in the following wards of Uckfield Town Council:-

  • Uckfield West
  • Uckfield New Town
  • Uckfield Ridgewood

Here in Uckfield there are three tiers of local government – East Sussex County Council, Wealden District Council and Uckfield Town Council.

In addition to the day to day running of the Town Council’s facilities, you can find out more about the Town Council’s key projects and aspirations over the next five years in the Strategic Plan 2023-28

The Town Council’s Property Asset Management Plan 2023-28 provides details of the council’s asset portfolio.

The Town Council has 15 seats, which are up for election every four years.

The positions of Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor are elected by the Town Councillors each year at the start of the annual statutory meeting of Full Council which takes place in May.

All Town Councillors meet in the format of Full Council at least six times a year, and the town council’s three main standing committees, are:

  • General Purposes Committee (9 members)
  • Environment and Leisure Committee (9 members)
  • Plans Committee (7 members)

We also have two sub-committees responsible for dealing with specific matters related to personnel and finance.

Any person wishing to fill any of the vacancies should apply to the Clerk in writing
before 12noon on Tuesday 9 May 2023.

The applicant’s name must appear on the current register of the Voters List or the applicant should during the whole of the twelve months preceding the relevant date above have resided in or within three miles of the town or the applicant’s only place of work during the whole of the twelve months preceding the relevant date above is in the town.

Applicants must not be debarred from standing as a Councillor.

To apply, please write to the Town Clerk before the above date expressing your interest, confirming how you meet the criteria and why you wish to stand as a Town Councillor.
