Uckfield West – Notice of By-Election
The date of an Uckfield Town Council By-Election in the Uckfield West ward has been confirmed as Thursday 27 August 2026.
Following the notice of a vacancy, made on 15 June 2026, a request for a By-Election was made by at least 10 electors in the Uckfield West ward (covering the Rocks Park and West Park estates, predominantly) before 6 July 2026, triggering a By-Election.
Nominations are now being welcomed by Wealden District Council, which, as the local authority responsible for elections, is administering the By-Election.
Important information
Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, The Elections Office, Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, East Sussex, BN27 2AX on any day after the date of this notice, on Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4 pm on Friday, 31st July 2026.
Nomination papers may be obtained from the offices of the Returning Officer, The Elections Office, Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, East Sussex, BN27 2AX, during the times stated above.
If any election is contested, the poll will take place on Thursday, 27th August 2026.
Eligible (registered) voters in the Uckfield West ward will receive polling cards to their home address in the coming weeks.
Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 11 August 2026. Applications can be made online: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Elections Office, Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, East Sussex, BN27 2AX by 5 pm on Wednesday, 12th August 2026.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Elections Office, Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, East Sussex, BN27 2AX by 5pm on Thursday, 27th August 2026.
Timetable
The first batch of poll cards is due to be sent on Friday 7 August, with the second batch being sent on Friday 14 August.
Postal votes will be sent 1st class on Friday 14 August.
