‘World Cup’ Pump Track Coming in October Half-Term
During the October 2026 half-term break, there will be a treat in store for Uckfield’s bike, skateboard and scooter enthusiasts at Victoria Pleasure Ground.
The Town Council will be installing a temporary ’World Cup’ Pump Track, adding to the facilities for young people in the town beyond the existing Skatepark between Victoria Pleasure Ground and New Barn Farm.
The key details about this exciting facility and the opportunities it brings for outdoor activities are explained below.
What is a pump track?
A pump track is a looped circuit with hills (rollers) and banked turns (berms). Riders can generate speed using up-and-down body movements – called ‘pumping’ – instead of pedalling or pushing a bike, skateboard, or scooter.
What dates will the pump track be on site?
The pump track will be at Victoria Pleasure Ground from Saturday 24th October to Friday 29th October 2026.
How long is the track?
The total track length is 65 metres.
What ages will it be suitable for?
The track is suitable for all ages from two years and upwards, provided they can ride a balance bike or scooter.
Will there be a member of staff on site?
A member of Uckfield Town Council staff will be on site between the hours of 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday.
Will safety equipment be required and provided?
Safety equipment will not be provided by the Town Council. Users must ensure they have a well-fitting helmet. Knee pads and elbow pads are recommended as well.
How much will it cost to ride the track?
There won’t be a charge to use the track. We only ask that users take it in turns if it gets busy, so that everyone gets a chance to enjoy it.
Are there any other rules?
From 9.00am to 10.30am each day, the track will be reserved for children aged five and under. After this, the track will be open to children of all ages, but we ask that all users be mindful of one another.
Skatepark Drainage Improvements
On Wednesday 26th August, the Skatepark received drainage improvements, following a consistent trend of flooding during wet weather.
Ahead of what is anticipated to be another wet winter, we are glad to have seen this work completed.
Luxford Field Play Area Matting
We have been frustrated by a delay in the availability of replacement parts for the matting on the Luxford Field Play Area, which was damaged by vandalism earlier this summer.
We reported on 17 June that the site had areas taped off as a result, and stated our intention to fix the areas as soon as possible.
Working with our contractor to secure replacement parts has taken much longer than expected due to supply chain issues, and we apologise profusely to parents and children who had expected to use the site in full throughout the summer holidays.
We have now been able to book in repair works for Tuesday 1 September 2026, which are anticipated to take all day.
Please be patient while these works are carried out, as the contractors will need to ensure that the new parts are fully secured.
