Wealden Draft ‘Focused’ Local Plan Consultation 2026-2042

Wealden District Council (WDC) are the local planning authority for this area, and they are required to prepare and adopt a Local Plan. A Local Plan sets out a long-term spatial vision for the district. It’s developed within a legal and policy framework of national planning policy, and guides where development should go, including both residential and commercial.

The plan also focuses on key themes such as housing, climate change, natural environment, heritage, economy, infrastructure and design. This is an important document which shapes the future of the district’s growth.

A revised and focused version of the draft plan was placed out for public consultation in February 2026 for a period of seven weeks. Details of the draft plan can be viewed here:
Wealden Draft ‘focused’ Local Plan – February 2026

Like its neighbouring parishes, Uckfield Town Council provided a comprehensive response to the draft plan, which was submitted by the deadline on 30 March 2026.
The response consisted of a number of documents relating to each section of the draft plan.

Wealden Draft Local Plan Consultation 2025 – 2040

In February 2024, Wealden District Council announced the publication of its Draft Local Plan.

This superseded the Draft Local Plan that was drawn up in 2019 and subsequently withdrawn in 2020. The new plan intends to offer a plan for how the district will develop between 2025 and 2040.

Between 15 March 2024 and 10 May 2024, Wealden DC ran an eight-week consultation period which would allow for all district residents to have their say on the Regulation 18 Draft Local Plan.

Uckfield Town Council prepared a detailed response to the questions asked within the plan. A copy of the responses are detailed below:

Chapter 3 – Vision and Objectives
Chapter 4 – Spatial Strategy
Chapter 5 – Climate Change
Chapter 6 – Natural Environment
Chapter 7 – Historic Environment
Chapter 8 – Housing
Chapter 9 – Infrastructure

Residents’ Survey – Winter 2024

Uckfield Town Council is one of three local authorities delivering services in your local area.

We created a survey back in October/November to find out more about what you as a local resident think about where you live. We were keen to understand:

  • What you like;
  • What needed improving;
  • What you considered to be a priority for you and your family, and;
  • How often you used Town Council services

The survey was created on Google Forms, and has now closed. The highlights from the survey were as follows:

Thank you to everyone who took part, we really appreciate your time and input!
The feedback received will not only inform our priority setting for 2025, but also inform our conversations with key stakeholders such as the District Council, County Council, partner agencies and developers. It will assist us with our longer term planning and help us understand what you consider important for the town in the future.
