Uckfield High Street Roadworks Update – 14.05.2026

On Tuesday 12 May 2026, the north section of High Street in Uckfield was closed off due to emergency repairs being carried out by Southern Water.

Because of the nature of the works, no notice was given to Uckfield Town Council about the closure of the road north of the Church Street junction.

We, alongside residents, are frustrated about the closure, which causes headaches in terms of finding alternative routes.

What are the works?

We understand that the works involve a deep sewer repair, and due to the depth of the excavation, it is unsafe for vehicles to pass the site.

As a result, a single-lane traffic system cannot be implemented, and the entire area needs to remain closed.

East Sussex Highways, which is carrying out works in conjunction with Southern Water, currently has a 10-day licence in place to work on the site – valid until Friday 22 May – although the team is working extended hours in an effort to complete the works sooner.

However, they are unable to work overnight due to the high density of residential properties in the area.

East Sussex Highways has been asked to review the signage for HGVs to prevent them from travelling through Church Street and Snatts Road, due to these roads being narrow and unsuitable for HGVs.

What is the impact on public transport?

Brighton & Hove Buses have informed customers that the Route 29 and Route 500 buses will be affected by the closure of Uckfield High Street. Diversions will be in place between 12th May and 2nd June 2026.

They have advised about the following changes to their services:
