Data Protection and Privacy

The General Data Protection Regulations and the Data Protection Act 2018 ensure the protection of personal data and set out the key principles within which all organisations using personal data should adhere to.

The council will follow procedures which aim to ensure that all employees, elected Members, contractors, consultants, partners or other data users who have access to any personal data held by or on behalf of the council are fully aware of and abide by their duties under the General Data Protection Regulations.

Publication Scheme

Retention Policy
The Town Council works to a retention policy for the management of the information it holds.

Privacy Policy
Uckfield Town Council explains what information it collects from service users within the Town Council’s privacy policy, and provides detailed information relating to the protection of your data.

CCTV Policy
The use of CCTV falls within the scope of the Data Protection Act 1998, the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. Uckfield Town Council has a CCTV policy which takes account of closed circuit television in and around Town Council owned building(s).

Subject Access Requests
You have the right to ask an organisation if they’re using or storing your personal information. You can also ask them for copies of your personal information.

This is called the right of access and is also known as making a Subject Access Request (SAR).

To make a request for information that Uckfield Town Council holds about you or another individual, a request needs to be made in writing, to the Town Clerk:

When making the request please specify in the subject line or reference ‘Subject Access Request’ and attach or enclose the appropriate identification and any other documentation relevant to the request.

Local authorities have a period of one month in which to deal with the request, from receipt. This time period can be extended up to two months if the request is complex but an explanation would be given in these circumstances to explain how much extra time is required and why.

The Information Commissioner’s Office sets out the recommended information you should included in your request.
