Browns Lane Drainage Works

We have been informed by East Sussex Highways that drainage works are set to take place in a section of Browns Lane in March 2024.

Between Monday, 18 March and Friday, 29 March, the Highways team will be installing drainage channels between the footway and a small number of private properties to capture spring water and direct it into the highway drainage system.

The road will be closed to through traffic between 9am and 4pm each day, and access for residents will be maintained throughout the works.

A statement from East Sussex Highways read:

“Work will be carried out between Monday 18 March and Friday 29 March. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What is being done?

“The team will be installing drainage channels between the footway and private properties to capture spring water and direct it into the highway drainage system.

“The channel will start outside property number 52 and continue to property number 57 where it will join the underground drainage system.

“The drainage channels will pass the front of residential driveways. These will not prevent your access in and out of your drive, once they are complete.

How will this impact highway users?

“The road will be closed to through traffic between 9am and 4pm each day.

“Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works. Whilst we install the channel across your driveway, we would appreciate it if you could park elsewhere on Browns Lane.  We will keep the disruption to each driveway to an absolute minimum.

Information for residents and businesses

“Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

“Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example, heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

“Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however, this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.”
