SGN has announced that its contractor DJ Utilities will undertake the essential replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe from Monday 26 October 2020. The works are expected to last approximately three weeks.
The new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
In consultation with East Sussex County Council, they have decided this safety-critical project needs to go ahead, rather than wait until the coronavirus pandemic passes, to ensure the local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.
The engineers will be working in Rocks Road from Hunters Pit and progressing towards the junction with Hunters Way. For everyone’s safety, they will install temporary two-way lights around their work area. They will manually control these lights during peak times to assist traffic flow.
The team has permission to work extended hours throughout the week, including on Saturdays, to complete the work as quickly as possible.
They are working closely with the UK Government and public health bodies to make sure they work in line with expert advice during the pandemic. There is more information about their coronavirus response on their website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus
