London Road and High Street Roadworks

Uckfield Town Council has been informed by East Sussex Highways that carriageway resurfacing works are to take place on London Road and High Street between Monday 11 March and Friday 29 March.

The road will be closed to through traffic between 7:30pm and 6am each day during these three weeks.

With the works taking place on such a key thoroughfare in the town, the Highways team will put clear signage in place for diversions via the B2102 Bell Farm Road, A22, A26 Uckfield Bypass, London Road & vice versa.

Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works. If you do need vehicle access, East Sussex Highways ask that you please discuss this with the team on site. They warn that there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and any vehicles are escorted by site marshalls.

Resurfacing works will occur on the full width of the carriageway during the works. Efforts will include:

  • Removing and replacing the existing road surface;
  • Iron works replacement and/or adjustment – to include manhole covers and gullies;
  • Kerbing and footway repairs;
  • Road Marking reinstatement;
  • Replacement of High Friction surface at various locations.

The entrance to the petrol station will also be relaid, giving a smooth finish and providing a better footfall for pedestrians.

East Sussex Highways added the following information:

“Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens. We do aim to carry out the louder aspects of works before 11.00pm to comply with the accepted environmental noise levels, however, there will be noise associated with a live works site after this time.

“During the works, buses will be required to follow the clearly signed diversion route, and bus stops within the works area will be suspended. Clear signage will direct bus riders to the nearest available stop.

“All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however, this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.”
