New Cemetery Section Consecrated by Bishop of Lewes
Uckfield Town Council was honoured to welcome the Bishop from the Diocese of Chichester to Snatts Road Cemetery for the consecration of the new Y Section.
In a consecration held on Tuesday 29th September 2026, the Town Council welcomed the Bishop of Lewes, The Right Reverend William Hazlewood, to bless the land for future burials.
The Bishop of Lewes’ service was a moving and significant occasion, formally dedicating the new section of the cemetery and providing an opportunity to remember those who have gone before us.
It also offered a chance to reflect on the hope and comfort that the site can provide to the community.
During the service, the Bishop and those gathered reflected on themes of light, remembrance and the Christian hope of resurrection, before the new section was formally consecrated.
Following the service, guests gathered at Civic Centre Uckfield for refreshments and an opportunity to reflect on the occasion and spend time together.
Uckfield Town Council would like to thank the Bishop and representatives from the Diocese of Chichester, councillors, staff and everyone who attended and helped make this an important and memorable occasion.
Other attendees at the event included representatives from various levels of local government, several local churches, and local funeral directors.
These included representatives of Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council, Cornerstone Church Uckfield, and Holy Cross Church Uckfield.
The Y Section is the first new section to be consecrated at Snatts Road Cemetery since 2008.
We would like to thank our grounds team for their work in preparing the new section of land, along with our Councillors, who approved plans and scrutinised them to ensure best practice was followed.
